The Scottish Highlands:

Of course, you could spend a Highlands holiday just gazing at the landscape, yet there are captivating visitor attractions around every corner here. In the villages and towns in the countryside, alongside lochs and in glens you'll come into contact with some of Scotland's most enticing and alluring museums, galleries and family-themed destinations to keep you occupied for hours.

Needless to say, Loch Ness is an un-missable destination. You can take a variety of cruises on this ethereal stretch of water and visit the engrossing Loch Ness Monster Exhibition, an ideal family day out, and the atmospheric Urquhart Castle. Wildlife enthusiasts will be in heaven in the Highland Wildlife Park, and the kids will love attractions such as the Landmark Theme Park or Waltzing Waters.

If you like your sports to be on the more invigorating, adventurous side, then you can ride the cable cars or mountain railway and strap on your skis at sites such as Aviemore, the Nevis Range and Cairngorm Mountain. This is also a brilliant area for trekking, walking and other sports and golf is never far away in Scotland.

There are lofty castle such as Cawdor, made famous by Shakespeare in Macbeth, military marvels such as Fort Augustus and, of course, even if you're teetotal, a visit to one of the regions famous whisky distilleries provides a fascinating insight into one of Scotland's greatest exports.
